Obituary for Larry Lewis Marek
Port Lavaca: Larry Lewis Marek 80, passed away Friday August 18, 2017 doing what he loved, which was working outside. He was born October 16th, 1936 in Port Lavaca to Viola Meyer Marek and Fred “Shorty” Marek.
Larry served in the US Army as a topographer. He later settled at Brown and Root and worked as a draftsman, instrument fitter and pipefitter. He always took pride in the fact that his drawings were precise and fit the first time with no revisions. He retired at age 59 after 30 plus years working at Brown and Root. He enjoyed his morning ritual of drinking coffee with his buddies at Whataburger and working out at the YMCA. He spent most of the days working outside in his garden, mowing his yard and driving through Six Mile checking to make sure everything was okay. He loved going to the deer lease every year with Lloyd and Richard Meyer. Trey Tatum and his son in-law, Ed Sturm.
In his later years he devoted his time to taking care of his wife Estherleen, until her passing last year. In the past year he spent most of his time at the Six Mile Cemetery cleaning the headstones. He also enjoyed donating blood, he has donated over 13 gallons to save others’ lives. He will be missed tremendously by the Six Mile Community but never forgotten.
He is survived by his daughters, RaDonna Marek and Lori Marek Sturm and her husband Ed Sturm, two precious granddaughters, Kayla Nicole Sturm and Amber Elizabeth Sturm that he loved tremendously and bragged about every chance he got. He cherished his two granddaughters and they were the apple of his eye. Larry is also survived by two brothers of Port Lavaca, Nelson Marek and Norman Marek, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Estherleen and his parents.
