Obituary for James Henry

James Odis Henry was born February 1932 in Victoria to Odis Oswell and Mamie Aline Henry and raised in Nursery with his three siblings Mabel, Martha, and Pat.

After graduating from high school James attended Victoria College and then joined the U.S. Air Force to become a fighter pilot. He trained to fly the F-86 in Holland, then the F-100 in Las Vegas at Nellis Air Force Base where he met his wife Barbara and they married August 1957. During service to his country in the Vietnam War he earned the Distinguished Flying Cross among other decorations. He served from 1951 to 1971, retiring as a Major. After retiring, he spent time as a cattleman in East Texas and worked as an oil well mud logger.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and three sons James Phillip (Buff), Paul Gregory, and William Bradford.

In lieu of flowers, he requested that donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Nursery Cemetery. To leave a comforting message, or to share a fond memory, please visit www.gracefuneralhome.net.
