Our beloved mother, Elida Rangel Garza, 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2017. She was born November 8, 1931 in Goliad, Texas to the late Juan Rangel and Aurora Ibañez. After almost two years in a nursing home, she passed away peacefully surrounded by family members. Our deepest thanks to the amazing team from Twin Pines Nursing home in Victoria who guided and supported us during this touching time.
Elida was a devoted housewife and loving mother, always supporting her sons’ educational experiences to foster better opportunities for them than she had growing up. She will be remembered for managing a tidy and loving home as well as making sure her sons learned Spanish as a second language. For a short time during the sixties she worked at Gene’s Café (a business her husband owned) whenever extra help was needed. She always looked forward to attending “Market Days” and loved to collect elephants; which included but not limited to figurines, jewelry and accessories. Culturally and spiritually, the elephant represents power & strength; a trait she reflected for her family.
She is survived by her sons, Dr. Rubén Garza, of Austin, TX, Bense Garza, of Kansas City, MO, Arturo “Art” Garza, of Goliad, TX, and Ernesto Garza and his wife Sylvia Lagunas Garza, of Katy, TX. Survivors,
in addition to numerous relatives, also include one sister Juana Rubio, of Goliad, TX, and one half-sister Anita Treviño, of Gregory, TX. Her half-brothers include, Fortunato Rangel, of Goliad, TX, Enrique Rangel, of Gregory, TX, Israel Rangel of Victoria, TX, and Ernesto Rangel, of Houston, TX.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Eugenio “Gene” Garza and the following siblings: Teresa Guerrero, Luz Rangel, Concepción Rangel, Mario Rangel, Soila Pérez, and half-brother, Domingo Rangel.
