Barbara Ann Hodge, 75, of Victoria passed away of Friday, April 13, 2018 at 9:05 a.m. She was at the Hospice of South Texas Compassion Center in Victoria. “Bobbie” as she was fondly called by her family and friends was born on March 25, 1943 to Elroy Hodge Jr. and Willie Ann Adams Hodge.
At an early age she went to the Palestine Baptist Church Nursery School. After graduating from there she entered F.W. Gross School and graduated from there in 1960. She graduated from Hicks Beauty School in San Antonio; afterwards, she entered and graduated from Victoria College Nursing School. Barbara worked as a nurse at Citizens Hospital and at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. She retired from Seton Hospital in Austin. After retiring she moved back to Victoria.
Barbara was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Austin. She returned to Webster’s Chapel United Methodist Church in Victoria where she had joined when she was 12 years old. Barbara was an active member of the United Methodist Women, the communion board, the hospitality committee and the church bible study class. Barbara liked to travel and she went on many trips and traveled to many places. She also liked to bake and cook. Her father said she was the “all-time best” hamburger maker and her mother loved her cakes better than her sisters. In high school Bobbie played varsity basketball on the F.W. Gross Lady Bumble Bee team.
Barbara is survived by 4 sisters, Velma (Joe) Mathis; Carolyn (Clemon) Hill; Roysteen (J.C.) Mathis; and Patricia (Charles) Tanner. She was a special loving aunt to her nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many loving cousins and dear devoted friends.
A visitation will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Grace Memorial Chapel at 8819 U.S Hwy 87 North. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Webster Chapel United Methodist Church 405 South Wheeler with Pastor Zettie Woodson, officiating. Interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
