Victoria—Theresa Candelaria Santiago, 93, went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 25, 2018. She was born on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925 in Hochheim to the late Antonio Candelaria and Felipa Plata Candelaria.
Theresa was a homemaker and member of Nicea Presbyterian Church. Her greatest passion in life was her family and serving her church. She was a very kind and compassionate neighbor. She was known as “Miss Smarty” during WWII for many servicemen who wrote letters to her and requested her photograph.
In her latter years she was dearly cared for by her devoted children, Doris and George and granddaughter, Katherine. Her lovely smile and graceful attitude influenced all who knew her.
Survivors include daughters: Norma (Jerry) Rutledge, Viviana Cavada, Doris Santiago, Nancy (Dale) Pahmiyer, Angeline (Juan) Rios; sons, George Santiago, Jr., Victor (Susan) Santiago; sisters, Elvira (John) Balli, Felipa Laurel; twenty five grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George A. Santiago; sisters, Eulalia Serrata and Antonia Mendez; 2 brothers, Antonio Candelaria, Jr.,Selestino Candelaria and granddaughter, Felipa Rios.
Visitations will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 from 5-7 pm at Grace Funeral Home with a prayer service to begin at 7 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at 10 am at Nicea Presbyterian Church, 401 S. DeLeon. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Katherine Leith, Juan Rios, Jr., Jonathan Rutledge, Daniel Santiago, Adelita Anderson and Lee Pahmiyer. Honorary pallbearer will be Ivan Cavada.
Family requests that donations be made to the Presbyterian Pan American School in Kingsville, Texas in lieu of flowers.
