Betty Jean Beck
Victoria—Betty Jean Beck, 86, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2018. She was born in Longview on August 20, 1931 to the late John Roscoe Wilson and Odessa Waldrop Wilson.
Betty attended Flour Bluff High School and went on to Del Mar Tech getting a geological drafting degree along with hours in grant writing, public relations, accounting and aging. She worked for Bee County College establishing and directing federal funded Aging programs. Betty was very instrumental in setting up the Area Agency of Aging. She served as the Director of seven county federally funded aging program. Betty organized non-profit organizations in six counties to provide transportation and meals to the elderly. She also helped established Senior Citizen Centers in 5 counties and transportation system in seven counties. She presently had been office manager/secretary/treasurer of AAA Air Conditioning which she and her husband, Ben, established in 1982.
Betty was a big volunteer in Cub Scouts, church work, PTA’s and RA’s. She assisted in establishing Affectionate Arms Adult Health Care Center in Victoria in 1988 and served as both President and Vice-President. Along with Ben, she enjoyed fishing, her church and gardening. She was married to Ben Beck for 60 years until his death in 2018.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her son, Thomas Beck and wife Donna; five grandchildren: Michelle Duval and husband Bryan, Tiffany Depine and husband Derek, Thomas T. Beck II and fiancé Rachel, Sonia Wykoff and husband Alex of California and Vanessa Vanya and husband Shawn Mattison of Oregon; 11 great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Grant, Gunner, Taylor, Madyson, Kolton, Lainey, Brooklynn, Rachel, Adam and Clayton along with numerous family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Ben: son, Geoff B. Vanya; grandson, Richard Beck; sisters, Joy Stockman and Ofelia Ellison and brother Lincoln Magard.
Graveside services will be held in Corpus Christi at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice of South Texas in Betty’s memory.
