Patsy Skoruppa (Evans)
Victoria- Patsy Ann Evans-Skoruppa, 80, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, June 16, 2018. She passed peacefully during her sleep in her home with her son present. She was born in Benavides, Texas on July 27, 1937 to the late Grady and Sadie Evans. Pat was raised in South Texas as her family followed the oilfield. She was in the Patti Welder class of 1955. Her parents owned and operated Sadie’s Place on Hwy 59 in Victoria.
Pat was a homemaker and a stay at home mom before entering the workforce in the early ‘80’s after her divorce. She worked for many years in childcare at First Baptist Church, along with numerous caregiving and sitter jobs at hospitals and nursing homes and even some private homes. Pat worked many years simultaneously at Dillard’s and Gulf Coast Paper Co. Her last position was with Target where she retired from after 20 years with Target in 2015.
Pat was very active in her children’s lives, many a weekend loading up horses and kids, towing the horse trailer all over South Texas to rodeos and horse show competitions. She co-founded, “Rough Riders 4-H Horse Club”, she was a member of the 4-H Adult Leaders Association, and received the “Outstanding 4-H Adult Leader” award. Pat was also active in the Victoria Quarter Horse and Gulf Coast Shetland Pony Clubs.
After retirement, Pat was able to travel to Graceland in Memphis, tour Nashville, attended the 2015 Kentucky Derby, visited Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico, the Cowboy Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in Colorado, Dodge City, Kansas and seven other states.
Pat is survived by her son, John E. Skoruppa and granddog, Pebbles of Leander, TX; grandsons, Cole Johnson of Edna and Dane Johnson of Victoria. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Evans; former husband, Johnnie P. Skoruppa; daughter, Barbara Ann Skoruppa-Johnson; and great-grandson, Kylar Cole Johnson.
Visitation for family and friends will be held Saturday, June 23rd from 12:00PM to 2:00PM at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Highway in Victoria. A funeral service will begin at 2:00PM and family will hold a private graveside service at Hebron Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas.
