Aubrey Jackson Butler, Jr., lovingly known by most as “A.J.”, 73 of Victoria, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, Tuesday, July 24, 2018.
Family and friends will gather for visitation, Sunday, July 29, 2018 from 4:00PM to 6:00PM at Grace Funeral Home, 2401 Houston Hwy in Victoria. A service celebrating A.J.’s life and his faithful contribution to his family and community at 10:00AM, Monday, July 3oth at Trinity Lutheran Church, 106 N. DeLeon St. in Victoria. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens where the Sheriff’s Department Honor Guard will present honors.
Pallbearers will be Weldon Butler, Alan Butler, Mike Butler, Johnny Rodriguez, Darrell Mayfield,Jr., Nathan Rodriguez, Bryan Jamison, Troy Stindt, and Robert Butler. Honorary pallbearers are, Emily Rodriguez, Lane Rodriguez, Cole Mayfield, Caden Mayfield, and Cullen Mayfield.
A.J. was born September 28, 1944 to the late Aubrey Jackson, Sr. and Alice Margaret Allen Butler. He worked for many years at Goad Boles Cadillac Oldsmobile here in Victoria as their Service Manager, achieving numerous accommodations over the years for his outstanding customer service. A.J married his true love, Renette Elsie Stindt, June 14, 1964. He was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church. After his work as a Service Manager, A.J. began his career with the Victoria County Sheriff’s Department as a Reserve and a Jailer. In 1977 was appointed as a Deputy, he was very proud of his work with the department. Most notably was his work with the DARE program. A.J. loved going to all the area schools and educating the children and they always loved his time with them. He was the host of a radio program specifically for the DARE program, the kids were always enthusiastic to call in and ask him questions live on the radio. A.J. retired from the department in 2004. A.J. had a passion for serving others but in his spare time from that work he enjoyed golfing, hunting, classic cars, and being outdoors, but most of all cooking up some good BBQ for his family.
A.J. was preceded in death by his parents AJ, Sr. and Alice Butler; sister, Sheila Butler; and brother, Pvt 1st Class, Robert Butler.
A.J. leaves behind a legacy of service to others and cherished memories by many. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Renette Butler; his daughters, Melanie Rodriguez and husband, Johnny and Amber Mayfield and husband, Darrell, Jr. A.J. loved his son-in-laws as if they were his own sons. Also surviving A.J. is his siblings, Weldon Butler and wife, Christa, Alan Butler and wife, Linda, and Mike Butler and companion, Sharon Peevy; his loving grandchildren that will miss their PoPo deeply, Nathan Rodriguez, Emily Rodriguez, Lane Rodriguez, Cole Mayfield, Caden Mayfield, and Cullen Mayfield; along with numerous other loving family members and a host of friends.
Donations in A.J.’s memory are requested to Hospice of South Texas or Trinity Lutheran Church Growth Program.
